One common question is where is the best place to surf in New Zealand?  The answer is probably Raglan, which is special due to it’s unique point breaks and the angle of the swell combined with the prevailing wind direction relative to the beaches there.  Other areas to consider are Southland, where large Pacific Antartic swells result in big waves.  Other popular locations are Gisborne, Piha, Mount Maunganui, and Taranaki. Spot X perhaps?

Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach

Monday, April 9th, 2012

Congratulations to Mick Fanning and Sally Fitzgibbons on winning the respective men’s and women’s sections of the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach in Victoria, Austalia.  By all accounts the finals were both hotly contested with Mick Fanning beating Kelly Slater 18.80 to 18.07 and Sally Fitzgibbons defeating Stephanie Gilmoure.

Conditions were offshore and the home advantage may have helped the Australians to victory.  Kelly Slater and Stephanie Gilmoure each remain number one in the ASP rankings.
